Alex
began playing the piano aged seven, and first picked
up a cornet when he was ten. Alex's' brass playing career
began with the Standish Brass band. Progressing through
the ranks, he then joined the Skelmersdale Prize band
where he became the principal cornet player. In 1998
Alex moved to the famous Besses O'Th' Barn Band, and
after two years in the ranks, he was promoted to principal
cornet in 2000.
In
2002, he moved to the Yorkshire Building Society Brass
band. The band won many prestigious titles during the
years which followed, including the European Championships
in 2003 and 2004, The British Open Championship in 2003,
and the All England Masters Championships in 2004. During
this time they also recorded many award winning CD's,
and the band became the number one ranked brass band
in the world.
Alex
has performed as a soloist throughout the UK, in America,
Canada, across Europe, in Australia and in Japan, as
well as being a soloist on BBC Radio 2's "Listen
to the band" programme. Alex's most coveted title
so far came in 2004 when he won the British Open Solo
Championships, and as well the best Bb Cornet title,
which allowed him to travel to Australia to represent
Britain in the Ern Keller International Brass Soloist
festival.
Alex
is a graduate of Salford University, where he gained
a BA (Music) hons, first class, with distinction in
performance. He currently works as a freelance musician,
and as a brass tutor for Wigan Instrumental Teaching
