Jim Bulger

Jim started playing the trumpet at the age of 7 and quickly discovered his love of music. He became passionate about playing different types of music and performing in public, and was soon busy with many local ensembles. At the age of 16 Jim was awarded a place at the prestigious Chethams' School of Music in Manchester to study the trumpet further, it was here that he discovered his love for Classical music and orchestral performance. After only two years Jim moved to the Royal Northern College of Music where he gained a Bachelor of Honours in music. At the RNCM Jim studied with the finest trumpet teachers in the
country and performed alongside many world class Jazz & Classical artists.

Since leaving the RNCM Jim has been working as a freelance musician and has enjoyed a varied career. He has performed with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the orchestra of Opera North and in 2006 he even travelled to Kazakhstan to play principal trumpet with the Kazakhstan Philharmonic Orchestra. Maintaining his love of variety Jim has also performed with the Nick Ross Orchestra playing classic swing music and in many brass bands and musicals.

As a teacher Jim works extensively with the trumpets and brass of Xaverian sixth form college in Manchester and in 2005 began working as a workshop leader in primary schools. In this role Jim has enjoyed entertaining and educating hundreds of schools around the country about the trumpet and about music.
