Laura Llewellyn

Laura Llewellyn comes from Pembrokeshire, and began learning the French Horn whilst in Junior School, receiving lessons provided by her County Music Service. She represented her school, county and country in various orchestras and ensembles throughout her school years, continuing her lessons with the Music Service until she entered the Royal Northern College of Music in 1998.

Laura graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music in 2003, where she gained a Distinction in her Masters of Music in Performance and a PPRNCM Performance Diploma. During her time as a student she won several bursaries to further her studies and fund an instrument purchase, toured and recorded with the college ensembles, competed in the college Concerto Finals,won a place on the Jerwood scheme with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, and was a soloist with the RNCM Chamber Orchestra in 2001.

Laura is now based in Manchester, as a freelance Horn player. She regularly works with many of the countries top professional orchestras, deputises on the touring West End Shows, and plays with several different smaller ensembles. She has trialled for permanent positions with the Halle twice, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra twice, RTE Concert Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, English National Ballet and is currently on trial for the position of Principal Horn with Scottish Ballet.

 

Laura currently teaches French Horn at Stockport Grammar School, where she also coaches the school Horn Ensemble, has a number of private students and has coached the Horn section of the Halle Youth Orchestra on a number of occasions.

When she is not driving round the country to perform or teach, Laura enjoys pub quizzes and spending time with her Samoyed X Retriever, Charlie Dog.
